Visitation
of Mary – the name given to the episode
in Mary’s life when she went to visit her
cousin Elizabeth to share the news that she had
been chosen to be the mother of Jesus.

be. It comes from the Latin word ‘vocare’
meaning ‘to call.’

Stand – In many churches you will
find stand on which to place candles for prayer.
These Votive stands are often found near icons or
statues of saints.

Lights – candles that we light as
a symbol of prayer. The phrase can also be used
to describe a candle that is lit at a statue of
Jesus or one of the Saints.
