Walsingham
– a place of pilgrimage in Norfolk where there
is Shrine of Mary. The story goes that in the eleventh
century the lady of the manor, Richeldis, was asked
by God to build a replica of the Holy House of Nazareth
– the place where Mary was greeted by the
Archangel Gabriel and where Jesus grew up with Mary
and Joseph. The shrine was destroyed in the sixteenth
century but pilgrimage began again in the early
twentieth century when the shrine was restored.

Water
Stoop – in many churches there is
a small container on the wall as you enter the church
containing holy water. People dip their fingers
in and make the sign of the cross as a reminder
of their baptism.
Word
of God – Jesus is the Word of God
– that is, through Jesus, God speaks to the
world. (John 1) However, it is also a phrase used
to describe the Bible – because through it
God speaks to us.
Worship
– our response to God’s love: first,
by joining with others in the church’s offering
of prayer, celebrating the sacraments and reading
his holy word: secondly, by acknowledging him as
Lord of our life, and by doing our work for his
honour and glory. In other words, worship is something
we do together in an ‘ordered’ way but
it is also everything we do and say – the
way we live our lives – and so is an everyday
experience.
